REID’S RAIDERS EASE ONE POINT CLEAR AHEAD OF DECIDING
PORTUGAL SINGLES
Alan Reid and his Reid’s Raiders continue to gel superbly in easing one point clear at 8 1/2 points to 7 1/2 points heading to the deciding Singles in the 2015 Lisbon Challenge.
Heading to day four of competition at the Oitavos Dunes course, and host venue of the Portuguese Open in 2005 and from 2007 to 2009, the two teams were locked at six points apiece.
And while the Rodger’s Dodgers pairing of Alastair McMeekin and Richard Guthrie combined to win 1up against George Morris and Andy Braid it was the only real joy for Peter Rodger’s team.
Eamon Scanlon and Craig Bayne were ahead for most of the day in the match against John Howorth and Bernie McGuire but after Bernie won the back-to-back par three 14th and 15th holes holes the encounter ended-up ‘all square’ at the last.
But then in the match behind the Reid Raider’s of Danny McMullen and Dave Patterson combined for a 3 & 2 success to draw level at seven-and-half points apiece.
Then in the final encounter of the day Rodger Watson and Alan Reid scored an important morale boosting victory over the Rodger’s Dodgers pair of Joe Duddy and Peter Rodger, and with Alan saving his best for last in walking off with a par at the 396-metre par four 18th.
