Phil Mickelson played one of the most bizarre shots on the opening day of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Royal Aberdeen.
The five-time Major winner hit a wild drive left down the par four 14th hole that came to rest within inches of a privacy screen surrounding a portable toilet for use by the competitors.
However when the visiting American took relief his golf ball came to rest on a bitumen path.
With a rules official looking on Mickelson asked if he had to play his ball from the pathway.
Mickelson was advised he had to and is using a wedge the reigning Scottish Open played a glorious in picking the ball off the pathway without scraping his club and landing his second shot to some two feet.
Hereunder is www.golffile’s exclusive photos of Mickelson’s uncomfortable predicament ahead of walking onto the green smelling like roses.
