Paul McGinley In Doubt For Scottish Open With ‘Bursitis’.

Paul McGinley could be in doubt for next week’s Scottish Open after being forced out without teeing-up in the French Open in Versailles.

McGinley advised Tour officials he was struggling with a bout of bursitis in his left shoulder, and described as a minor trauma caused by overuse of the shoulder joints and muscles.

The European Ryder Cup captain was in some discomfort during Wednesday’s long five-hour Pro-Am when he was joined on the 2018 Ryder Cup host venue by long-time good friend, Dermot Desmond who was playing off a 12 handicap.

“I’m absolutely shattered,” he said after the Pro-Am.

Lately, McGinley has been observed practicing on the range using a wooden training board and whether or not the vibration from hitting shots off the board is the cause of his shoulder concern is unknown.

However he admitted during last week’s BMW International Open he is also struggling with ‘Ryder Cup Captaincy Syndrome’ with his form, like so many of his predecessors in the countdown to a Ryder Cup, has seen a downturn in performance on the course.

In fact, McGinley’s retirement continues a disappointing season for the Dubliner having missed the halfway cut in last three events while he’s played just five other events and playing all four rounds in three.

And McGinley’s off-course Ryder Cup duties continued this week when he joined Padraig Harrington and Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello travelling to Bordeaux at the request of 2018 Ryder Cup Tournament Director, Pascal Grizot for a photo shoot with a wine sponsor for the Ryder Cup in France.

Grizot was also a member of McGinley’s Pro-Am team that shared eighth place.
