Russell Knox Celebrates Impending Marriage Making It 11 Of 13 Cuts This Season.

Soon-to-be-married Russell Knox celebrated making it 11 from 13 halfway cuts this season with a two under par 70 on day two of the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio.

The Scot bounced back from Thursday’s fog-delayed start to his round when he walked off in near darkness with a round of 74.

Knox capped his second by holing an 84-foot bunker shot for eagle at the par five 14th hole on the Greg Norman designed course.

He said:  “I’m really happy I’ve made another cut but then I played pretty good on Thursday and didn’t get anything out of the round, and after making a double from nowhere on my 10th hole it’s good to be standing here knowing I’m playing all four rounds.

“I knew that if I took out the same game today I would probably shoot under par and I have.

“It was big also last night to get finished after the tee time was put back two-and-a-half hours after the fog delay.”

Much of the Norman designed course, and particularly the 18th, mirrors the double Open Champions Earth Course layout in Dubai, and venue for the European Tour season-ending DP World Tour School.

And after defending Valero Texas Open champion Martin Laird shot an equal course record 63 to win a year ago, Knox is now looking for a similar score over the weekend.

He said:  “I am going to have to get aggressive now and just like Martin did this time last year.

“I am sure there’s a 63 or 64 somewhere there in my bag and I just have to be bang on with my irons.

“But in saying that I am just not quite there with my irons and my putter’s been ice cold these two days so hopefully that will all turn around.”

Knox commenced the 2013/14 wraparound schedule last October and since then has missed just two halfway cuts, and with standout result being losing out in a play-off for the Honda Classic.

Knox revealed he will be married to Andrea Hernandez on April 12th in a small ceremony in his home city of Jacksonville, Florida.

The 24-year old Mexican-born Hernandez used to compete in the 1990s on the Women’s Tennis Association circuit and Knox, who has known her for six-and-a-half years, says her experiences have helped him in his golfing career.

He met Hernandez while working at the Marsh Landing Country Club in nearby Ponte Vedre.

It will be the second top Scottish golfing wedding in the Jacksonville region in just a few years with Glasgow’s Scott Jamieson being married in the surrounds of the TPC Players Championship clubhouse in 2011.

In fact, Knox and Hernandez attended the wedding but in contrast Knox indicated his own wedding will be low key.

Knox’s wedding will mean missing out on next week’s Shell Houston Open and what would be Knox’s last shot at qualifying for the Masters should he not success this week in San Antonio.

He said:  “I’ve known Andrea for some time and it’s very exciting, and both of us are looking forward to the marriage very much.

“She’s already been so helpful to my own career and getting married will make it all legal.”
