The Snake Pit Takes One Last Bite Out Of Russell Knox.

The Snake Pit took one last bite out of Russell Knox on the final day of the Valspar Championship at the Innisbrook Resort, Tampa Bay.

For the third occasion in four days Knox walked off the 18th green with a bogey on the Copperhead Course.

However the 28-year old Scot, who got into a play-off in last fortnight’s Honda Classic, could count himself unlucky after hitting one of his best drives all week that measured 298-yards, but then seeing his ball rested in a divot.

And being just 125-yards out from the green and looking to get back under par in the championship, Knox put his second shot into a greenside bunker from where he walked off with a bogey in a round of 73 to finish T25th at one over par.

“I thought after that drive up the last, and probably one of my best tee shots all week, I would be staring at a great birdie chance but then my ball’s lying in a divot,” he said.

“Overall it’s been a tough four days and the course has been very tricky, and one of the trickier courses on the Tour schedule.

“It was pretty windy also today and had to get club selection correct.  There is no easy holes out there.

“But then I’m heading now to Orlando with a lot of positives and the game is still as good as it was when I went so close in the Honda the other week.

“I’m going to be disappointed with my finish this week but looking back I felt I played well, and better than my scores reflected.

“So a new week this week and a new challenge.”

While Knox will be making his debut in this week’s $US 6.2m Arnold Palmer hosted event he revealed he’s no stranger to the Bay Hill course having played a social round many years ago with his father.

And joining Knox this coming week will be fellow Scot Marin Laird, a former Arnold Palmer Invitational winner, and returning to competition following a month’s competitive break following his wife, Meagan giving birth to the couple’s first child.
