European Ryder Cup captain, Paul McGinley has been forced to employing a local Lake Malaren caddy on the bag for this week’s $7m BMW Masters in Shanghai.
McGinley’s regular caddy, ‘Edinburgh Jimmy’ is still getting over the ill-effects of a serious bout of food poisoning he suffered during the recent Portugal Masters.
As well, McGinley had been hinting of not travelling to Shanghai but instead made a late decision to drop competing in the India Open from his schedule to compete in China and an event sponsored by one of the Tour’s major sponsors.
So in the absence of ‘Edinburgh Jimmy’ and with all other regular European Tour caddies otherwise engaged, McGinley has Mimi on the bag.
Mimi’s 23-years of age and when asked if she plays off she said ‘yes’ and plays off a handicap of 20.
“I am really enjoying working with Mr. McGinley and this is a very special week for me,” she said in pretty good English.
“He is a very good golfer and the best golfer I have ever caddied for.”
And McGinley’s enjoying having Mimi on the bag.
“Mimi’s been great,” he said. “She caddied for me in the Pro-Am and now these first two rounds and she’s very helpful.
“And besides she’s a lot prettier and quicker than Jimmy (laughing).”
