The make-up of the 2014 Race to Dubai European Tour membership bizarrely will hinge on one player – South African Tim Clark.
Clark is among three Affiliate Members inside the top-110 on the money list who will retain automatic membership for next season.
Two of those Affiliates will remain in the top-110 – the Sweden pair of Jonan Blixt and Carl Pettersson – despite the duo not meeting the minimum requirement of competing in 13 events.
Blixt, currently 46th on the money list, has played only four events and Pettersson, who is lying 99th, has contested eight.
They sought European Tour membership with the 2014 Ryder Cup in mind.
However Clark’s intentions remain unclear.
Thomas Bjorn, as Tournament Players Committee Chairman indicated Clark will be approached with regards to his European Tour status and should he wish to remain a Tour member then the cut-off point for 2014 automatic Tour membership will be 110.
If not, and the Durban-born Clark asks for his name to be removed then those 111th or better will be afforded 2014 membership.
“We will have to wait and see what Tim says and if wants to come out of the money list then he comes out but we can’t force him,” said Bjorn.
www.golfbytourmiss.com reported exclusively yesterday the Tour will enact a new regulation to encourage the PGA Tour based Europeans to compete more at ‘home’.
