Memphis University lifted the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Invitational Trophy with a six stroke success over hosts University of Alabama and McDowell’s former University.
Memphis won the intercollegiate event with a 22-under par score of 842 after a combined final round of 276 on the Shoal Creek course that has played host to a number of Major Championships including the 1984 and and 1990 US PGA Championship.
Individually, Mississippi University’s Blake Morris and Memphis’ Lars van Meijel,, and a freshman from the Netherlands, tied for first place with eight-under par scores of 208.
The 19-year old Van Meijel competed in the recent KLM Open but missed the cut in the European Tour won by countryman Joost Luiten.
Earlier this year Van Meijel captured the Tromp Cup, a Dutch event for under 21s on the Dutch North Golf Club course.
