Graeme McDowell took to Twitter to thank well-wishers following his marriage to American-born Kristin Stape a sun-soaked Caribbean island in the Bahamas on Saturday.

“I’m a very Lucky man”, was how the ace golfer summed up the day.

Ahead of the ceremoney, Rory McIlroy’s tennis superstar girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki tweeted: “All the best Graeme and Kristin have a fantastic day. Many happy years together as Mr and Mrs McDowell.”

And following the intimate ceremony, Graeme also took to the social network.

The Portrush man told his half-a-million Twitter followers: “Thank you all for your messages. Kristin and I are very excited for our big day. New chapter in our lives and I’m a very lucky man.”

Graeme and Kristin met when he hired the interior designer to carry out work on his Florida home.

He then popped the question on the helipad of the 7-star Burj Al Arab in Dubai and ahead of the competing in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

The couple are expected to continue their celebrations with a reception for his many Portrush family members and friends later this year.
