Justin Rose Gives Thumbs Up To Muirfield

New US Open champion Justin Rose has given the thumbs up to Muirfield and venue for next week’s 142nd Open Championship.

Rose spent Tuesday and Wednesday on the course before meeting up with Masters champion Adam Scott on the Muirfield putting green and with golf’s newest Major winners then sharing dinner together in the nearby Greywalls Hotel.

Rose competed in the 2002 (British) Open finishing 22nd and the last time golf’s oldest major was staged on the East Lothian county course.

“The golf course is in fantastic shape and the R & A have set it up very well strategically,” said Rose.

“Like any Open Championship it’s going to be important to have a good understanding of links golf.

“Sometimes you are going to have to ignore the yardage books to hit it to the right places.

“The key next week will be the par fives and the par threes.

“And as for the rough, it will be very penal if you stray too far off line.”
