Montgomerie & Olazabal Head US Open Qualifier At Walton Heath.

Europe’s immediate past two victorious Ryder Cup captains and eight other former Ryder Cups haven entered next Monday’s US Open 36-hole qualifier at Walton Heath in Surrey.

Colin Montgomerie, captain of the 2010 victorious European Team, will be looking to contest the US Open for a first time since 2008, and after having failed to qualify at Walton Heath for the past three years.

Joining Montgomerie will be Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal, and captain of last year’s winning European side at Medinah.

The double Masters winning Olazabal has not competed in a US Open since 2007 while he has also failed to qualify at Walton Heath in both 2009 and last year.

Joining the duo will be 108 other players seeking one of just some 10 spots into the US Open commencing on June 13th at the Merion course in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.

Other Ryder Cup stars seeking to qualify next Monday include Frenchman Thomas Levet, Italy’s Edoardo Molinari, Denmark’s Soren Hansen, the Swedish pair of Jarmo Sandelin and Niclas Fasth along with the England pair of David Howell and Paul Casey.

It will be the first-ever occasion Casey, who has slipped to No. 153 in the world, has sought to qualify for the year’s traditional second Major.

Casey had contested every US Open from 2003 to including 2011 before losing his PGA Tour at the end of that year.

His best US Open was T10th behind Tiger Woods in 2008 at Torrey Pines in California.
