Despite 30 putts on day three of the event Clarke posted a level par 72 to remain at five under par but only three shots shy of breaking into the top-10.

Unsung Aussie Daniel Popovic continues to lead the prestigous event but is under threat with a round to play by in-form fellow Australian Peter Senior who is looking to win the event a week after capturing the Emirates Australian Open.

Senior, 53 created history a week ago in becoming the oldest winner of the Australian Open while two years ago he became the oldest winner of an Australasian Tour event in winning the Australian PGA and denying legendary Kel Nagle the honour and shortly before Nagle celebrated his 90th birthday.

Clarke got off to a great start with thre birdies in his opening five holes but it turned pear-shaped for the Royal St. Georges winning hero when he double bogeyed the 12th and 14th holes before gettingĀ  a shot back with a birdie at 17.
