It was one of those ‘out of left field’ bizarre questions you only get in China when Ian Poulter was asked to name the most muscular, handsome and fashionable of the European Ryder Cup team.
Last week in Shanghai for the BMW Masters, Rory McIlroy had been asked who he thought among himself, Martin Kaymer and Poulter who could play the part of James ‘007’ Bond.
This week it was Poutler’s turn and here’s ‘Poults’ nominations:-
Muscular – Lee Westwood
Handsome – Martin Kaymer
Fashionable – ‘None of them can dress’.
Poulter’s interview had started bizarrely with European winning colleague, Justin Rose taking a seat in the Media Centre and asking the first question of his England compatriot.
Rose had been in for interview ahead of Poulter but there had been some other requests of Rose once he had completed the formal part of the interview.
Poulter walked in to give Rose a friendly slap on the backside and then when he took his place behind the microphone said: “Would Justin Rose please leave the building.”
But Rose took a seat, grabbed a microphone, and here’s what transpired between the England pair.
JUSTIN ROSE: What can I ask Poults?
IAN POULTER: Make it really good.
JUSTIN ROSE: How can I beat you this week? Because you’re looking like you’re buoyant at the moment.
IAN POULTER: How can you beat me this week? Oohh, let me see.
JUSTIN ROSE: You’re looking like ‑‑
IAN POULTER: Well, you hit it past me. You’ve got me covered off the tee. You’ve nearly got me covered in greens in reg, because you’re like 99.9998 percent greens in reg. So just warm the plate up, buddy.
JUSTIN ROSE: The boy’s got the bit between his teeth again, watch out.
