Paul McGinley Now Favourite For 2014 European Team Captaincy.

The victory celebrations were still in full swing and UK bookmakers William Hill installed Ireland’s Paul McGinley as favourite to replace Jose Maria Olazabal as 2014 European Team captain.

McGinley has now been a part of five winning Ryder Cup teams, three as a player and now twice as a vice-captain.  The Dubliner also led GB & I to victory in back-to-back Seve Trophy teams.

Indeed, McGinley has never tasted defeat in either the Ryder Cup or Seve Trophy.

Hereunder is William Hill odds for Europe’s next captain.

Ryder Cup Captain 2014: 2/1 Paul McGinley, 3/1 Colin Montgomerie, 5/1 Jose Maria Olazabal, 6/1 Darren Clarke, 8/1 Paul Lawrie, 10/1 Thomas Bjorn, 14/1 Sandy Lyle, 16/1 Miguel Angel Jimenez.

Olazabal was asked about his four vice-captains following Sunday’s stunning European success and the difference they made in helping deliver Europe a ‘Medinah Miracle’.

“Well, obviously they bring a lot of knowledge, experience; but at the same time, a lot of diversity,” said Olazabal.

“All four guys are completely different.  They have their own way of thinking.

“And I think that combination is very helpful or has been very helpful in this case for me, because I could have the view from a different perspective of how things were going. And that’s what they bring.

“Also, they have the respect of these 12 men here.

“They have done‑‑ they have played great golf for many years.  They have won‑‑ Darren (Clarke) has won a major event and Thomas (Bjorn) has been fighting for it, and they have been great golfers for many, many years and these guys respect that.”

And William Hill has also issued odds on who will win the 2014 Ryder Cup.

10/11 Europe, 11/10 USA, 10/1 Tie.
