World No. 1 Luke Donald has been an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours but there was no medal for the Englishman after he missed the cut in the U.S. Open at San Francisco.

Donald will attend Buckingham Palace in coming months to be presented with his MBE by the Queen for his services to golf.

Donald has now spent 48 weeks atop of World Rankings since defeating then World No. 1 Lee Westwood to win the 2011 BMW PGA Championship.

The 34 year old Englishman also achieved an unprecedented double when he topped the money lists on both sides of the Atlantic by winning the Race to Dubai and the US PGA Tour Money List last year.

“I am truly honoured to be awarded an MBE by Her Majesty, particularly in her Jubilee year,” said Donald.

“Both 2011 and 2012 have been very significant years for me, both personally and professionally, and I am touched that my accomplishments have been recognised in this way.”

Earlier this week he joked that he was unsure The Queen would be watching coverage of him this week, “but if she is hopefully I’m one of her favourites”.
