Jazz Janewattananond hit the right note not once but twice and also back-to-back in a rare first on day one of the Link Hong Kong Open.
The soon-to-be 31-year-old sensationally upstaged playing partners Lee Westwood and Kevin Na thanks to his seven-under 63 highlighted with back-to-back eagles on the host suburban Fanling course.
Jazz eagled the par-5 13th hole and then holed his second shot for an eagle ‘2’ at the next – the par-3 14th.
“I think I’ve never done it before, so it’s the first one,” said Jazz.

“Pretty simple, actually, on the par five just drove down the middle, hit six iron on the green, and made the putt from like 20 feet, I would say. So really, really good eagle, very standard”.
Jazz’s second eagle was from 126-yards out and with his PW shot taking one bounce and going straight into the cup though it was clear that Jazz nor his caddy did not see where the ball had landed nor did it seem there was any crowd reaction to the stunning shot as Jazz explained.
“I hit my pitching wedge and I thought it was long because it was quite gusty with the wind, so hen I got up, it was two balls, one on the back, one on just short of the hole,” said Jazz.
“So I went straight to the back of the back of the green, just to see if it’s my ball. But they were like, “No, no, no, your ball is back there”, so I had to walk back and pick up my ball.”
Jazz has won 11 times in his pro career including seven times on the Asian Tour though it’s been four years since he last tasted success and that being the International Series Morocco event
Sitting in ninth place on the OOM Jazz has an outside chance of winning this year’s Merit title, which he claimed back in 2019.
