Olympic Torch Relay Organiser Snub ‘Home of Golf’ & ‘Chariots of Fire’ Opening Scene.

In a huge snub 2012 Olympic Games Torch relay organisers have overlooked the ‘Home of Golf’, the Swilcan Bridge and also the West Beach at St. Andrews for tomorrow’s appearance of the torch in St. Andrews.

Golf is set to return to the Olympics in 2016 and with the R & A’s CEO, Peter Dawson having worked tirelessly for it’s inclusion in the Rio de Janeiro Games.

However Fife Council in it’s wisdom has chosen to overlook the historic Old Course, the famed Swilcan Bridge and also nearby West Beach that featured in the opening scenes of the Academy Award winning movie ‘Chariots of Fire’.

Imagine the worldwide TV and photo opportunities to be achieved by including any of the three in the relay.

And when you consider some of the iconic locations where the Olympic torch has been to date, Fife Council and organisers have shown no imagination whatsoever in planning the route through the ‘Ole Grey Toon’.
