Cream Rises To The Top With Two Major Champs Just A Shot Behind Heading To Baycurrent Classic Final Round

The eighth edition of the Baycurrent Classic is headed for an exciting finale with eight players within a shot of the lead on the host Yokohama Country Club in Japan.

Among the eight is two major champions in Justin Thomas and Adam Scott each at 12-under and a shot behind the leading trio of Americans Michael Brennan (65), Zach Bauchou (67) and Jacob Bridgeman (69) leading the way on 13-under.

Brennan and Bridgeman head into the final round seeking a third Tour success and Bauchou, who bogeyed three of his closing five holes, a first.

Double major winner and defending champ Xander Schauffele moved four shots off the lead in Japan after posting two eagles but also a double bogey.

Schauffler enjoyed a roller-coaster front nine in sunny conditions in Yokohama, starting with a bogey before holing two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 fourth and then followed that up with a double bogey on the next hole before sinking another eagle on the par-5 sixth, and went on to card four more birdies and another bogey to finish the round.

“It was a weird day,” said Schauffele, who won Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021.

“It was a lot of good, honestly some really bad in there as well.

“But overall, if someone told me I was going to shoot 65, I’d probably take it.”

Masters winning Scott, looking for his first PGA Tour win in six years, posted a 6-under 65 which included two eagles and Thomas, seeking a 17th PGA Tour victory, posted five birdies in a 67.

The PGA Tour’s lone stop in Asia this year features its strongest field of the FedExCup Fall, with 13 of the 24 players who competed in the Presidents Cup two weeks ago at Medinah in the Chicago suburbs.
