World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler takes an impressive three shot lead into the weekend rounds of the FedEx St. Jude Championship as he looks to end a seven-month winless drought.

Scheffler birdied his opening five holes in a dominating new course record second round nine-under 61 to end his day at 11-under on the host TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee.

The duo of South Korean Sungjae Im (66) and Norwegian Viktor Hovland (64) share second place on eight-under.

Scheffler and currently lying first in the FedEx Cup standings has not enjoyed success since last January’s American Express Championship while a win this week will be his 26th pro career title and a 21st PGA Tour triumph.

“I wouldn’t say golf’s ever easy. I did some good things out there. I hit some iron shots in there close and was able to hole a few putts as well,” said Scheffler.

“When you’re making a lot of birdies out here, you’re hitting good shots and holing putts. I think that’s what we’re trying to do all the time. I was able to do that pretty quick to start the round today”.
