‘Like Playing On The Moon Not Knowing What Gravity Will Do’ Says Jerry Kelly Seeking To Tame Kings Course

Visiting American Jerry Kerry had an ‘out of this planet’ likening after seizing the clubhouse lead thanks to a tw0-under-par 68 on day two of the ISPS Handa Senior Open in very tough windy conditions on the host Kings Course at Gleneagles.

Kelly posted four birdies and half as many bogeys on the famed Scottish course, a long-time former host of the Scottish Open.

The effort lifted the 59-year-old American into the clubhouse lead at 6-under and two shots clear of nearest clubhouse rival Austrian Marcus Brier.

And when asked to describe the course conditions the three-time PGA Tour winning Kelly said:

“I mean, it’s kind of like playing golf on the moon and not knowing what gravity is going to do to your ball, how far you’re going to hit it and where it’s going it land and hitting the craters and going all over the place.

“It’s acceptance, and that’s normally not my game. But I brought it this week, and I hope I continue to bring it because you’re going to be wrong, and it’s going to bounce in places that — that was a good shot but — no but. Just go get it done the next time. I’m always learnin”.

GOLFBYTOURMISS followed-up Kelly’s initial comments and with him remarking:”There is so many holes out there like you’re just going over the craters of the moon with so many swales and the like that you just have to visualize where the ball is going to land, knowing that the fairway is shaped to bring it back.

“It’s also like you would not know how far you’ve hit it without a little bit of gravity and that kind of what it reminded me of out there today (smiling).

“Normally, I don’t hit 4-irons 400-yards and  I guess given some of the outcomes, it did make that walk a bit more enjoyable out there today absolutely.

“Anytime you play well out there on a day like today it is a lot easier to enjoy yourself.  It was just a tough day”.
