Scotland’s Jamie Duguid is celebrating after superbly taming the windy conditions in capturing the famed Battle Trophy at Crail Golfing Society in the Home of Golf nation.
Duguid posted rounds of 70, 70, 71 and a closing 73 to secure success by a shot in the four-round, two-day event held last weekend over the Gil Hanse designed Craighead Links course at Crail and some 10 miles east of St. Andrews.
The Dunbar attached Duguid, and where he proudly reigned as Club Champion two years ago, landed the trophy in the 29th anniversary hosting of the presitigous Scottish Amateur event.
“It’s the first time I’ve played in the Battle, and I can see why it’s so highly rated,” said Duguid who plays off plus 4.
“The event is really well run and the course was in great shape.
“I work full time and it’s tough to find the time to play in as many events as I would like, but I’ll certainly be back.”
Duguid now joins former Scottish-born Battle Trophy winners and now DP World Tour champions Grant Forrest and Connor Smye as a Battle Trophy winnner.
Duguid teed-up at Crail certainly in the best of form having posted a closing 66 to finish second the week prior at the Craigmillar Park Open, the event he was contesting as defending champion.
Aside from his victory at the Craigmillar Park last year, Duguid also captured the 2025 Lothians Amateur Championship.
Glenbervie’s George Cannon, who was out in the final pairing with Duguid, signed for a closing 69 to finish just a one stroke back in second.
Reigning Scottish Amateur champ Chris Somer from Murcar, who had posted a rousing 68 in the third day’s play, struggled in the tougher last round conditions adding a 76 but still good enough to finish third on 290, one shot clear of Lundin’s James White.
Keep it going, Jamie
