Exclusive: Fitzpatrick Latest Joining Chorus Calling For Donald To Remain For Adare Manor

Double-winning European Ryder Cup star Matt Fitzpatrick has joined a growing chorus calling on his 2023/’25 victory team leader Luke Donald to remain in charge for the 2027 Ryder Cup defence at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Fitzpatrick, 31, has represented Europe in four Ryder Cup – 2016, 2021, 2023 and 2025 – though none were more special than winning in 2023 in Rome and then successfully defending the Cup at Bethpage Park a year ago.

And while Fitzpatrick would dearly love to be a member of  the 2027 Adare Manor defending team, he has expressed the view that it would be great to be again in that team under Donald’s leadership.

“I am not going to say ‘no’ if Luke should wish to remain as captain for Adare Manor”,  said Fitzpatrick ahead of this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational in Florida.

“It just seems a no-brainer Luke be captain but then there are obviously a lot of things that will come into making his decision, so I will leave that one to him but it would be so good to have him back on board”.

It seemed appropriate to also ask the 2022 US Open champ what is it about Donald’s leadership that impresses him as a Ryder Cup captain.

“Luke’s a calm captain, not a let’s get up and go, screaming at you captain”, said Fitzpatrick.

“He motivates the players under him in a different way, exhibiting smart leadership.  It’s clear he’s learnt a lot about himself and that came through in the two Ryder Cup teams he captained.

“He does have that ability in him and he’s made a great success of it”.

Fitzpatrick’s views come after GolfByTourMiss recently spoke to past European Team captain’s Bernhard Langer and Darren Clarke.
