Graeme McDowell’s Volvo World Match-Play scars have healed and he’s ready to get straight into the overtaking lane in this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The Ryder Cup winning hero had the victory red carpet pulled right out from under him by Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts who claimed the biggest title of his career.
But while McDowell looked totally rejected last Sunday he’s brimming with enthusiasm heading into this week’s Euro 7.5m flagship event.
“Wentworth has a real big-time feel this week, with the crowds and the scale of the event itself,” he said.
“This is big-time golf, the first time back on British soil this year. This is such a great event I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It’s just a fantastic tournament and I love coming here.
“But when the sun shines at Wentworth, it’s always a fantastic occasion with big crowds.
“And while this golf course has not really been a happy hunting ground for me but since the changes have been made to the course, I think it sets up better and better for me.
“So I’ve high hopes of doing well here this week.”
Organisers have grouped the current World No. 18 with England’s Lee Westwood and Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn.
McDowell is making his 10th straight showing at Wentworth since missing the cut on debut in 2003.
The BMW PGA also marks the start of a run of big events for McDowell and right up to an including the British Open starting on July 19th.
Of course, high on McDowell’s agenda is boarding September’s flight to Chicago and the defence of the Ryder Cup.
McDowell has joined the leading 30 currently on the points table in being measured for Ryder Cup attire.
“I got measured for clothing this morning so that was a bit of buzz, and I’m just hoping I will get to wear the clothes later this year,” he said.
“But there’s nothing but great golf ahead.
“My schedule is great and I’m feeling really, really good about the way I’m playing. I’ve just got to stay patient and let the results come.”
“So it’s all good and all I can say is bring it on!”
