Exclusive …. Top US Pro Singles Out ‘Robbie Mac’ For Masters Glory

Popular American golfer Tony Finau reckons if he can’t secure the last place in the Master’s at this week in Valero Texas Open he’s got a good idea who may be fitted for the Augusta National winner’s green jacket – top Scot Robert MacIntyre.

The six-time PGA Tour winning Finau has contested every Masters since his T10th finish on debut in 2018 and with a best effort of T5th behind Tiger Woods in 2019.

Disappointingly though the now 36-year-old Finau is no longer automatically exempt into the Masters, having dropped to the current World No. 107, having been inside the World’s top-50 since late 2017 to October last year when he entered the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as World No. 64 and the event won by MacIntyre seven days post victory in the Ryder Cup.

Finau can join MacIntyre next week at Augusta National but he must win this week’s ‘Masters Last Chance Saloon’ event in San Antonio to secure the very last spot into the 90th hosting of the Masters.

And if Finau can’t win a first green jacket he said he’d put money on MacIntyre becoming just a second Scot to succeed at Augusta National.

GolfByTourMiss asked the American who he fancied and Finau saying: “Historically, it would seem someone who has won leading up to the Masters always does well at Augusta.

“I fancy someone like Robbie MacIntyre.  He’s a lefty and in recent years, lefties have played well there at Augusta. He’s obviously proven he can beat the best players in the world. Yeah, for sure.

“I played the Dunhill Links last year over in Scotland and Robbie pulled off a great victory.

“Another really good lefty is Akshay BhatiaHe’s going to have a great chance too. He’s been playing great golf. But lefties, the way they see it, that sets up well for them“.

In fact, just three left-handed golfers have tasted success at Augusta.

·        Mike Weir: The first left-handed Masters champion in 2003.

·        Phil Mickelson: A three-time winner at Augusta in 2004, 2006 & 2010.

·        Bubba Watson: Followed up a play-off win in 2012 with a second victory in 2014.

MacIntyre tees-off in this week’$US 9.8m Valero Texas Open finding himself in Lone Star State star three-ball featuring Masters winner Jordan Spieth and Ludwig Aberg.
