Exclusive: Top Scot Eager To Again Work For His Ryder Cup ‘Boss’.

For top-ranked Scot Robert MacIntyre remarked being a member of Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup side is very much like working for a boss.

You receive your intructions and you go do what is asked of you.

MacIntyre’s boss is Luke Donald and the game’s top lefty is delighted Donald’s staying on as captain for a third straight captaincy later next year.

The two-time winning Ryder Cup winning MacIntyre spoke in sharing his delight Luke Donald has elected to remain European Ryder Cup captain for the 100th anniversary hosting next year at Adare Manor.

MacIntyre said: “It’s great news for Ryder Cup Europe. Whoever was going to take the job, it was Luke who got offered the job at the start and so pleased he’s chosen to remain at the helm.

“I only found out the night before the official announcement but it’s just great news it is someone who is familiar with the job, and they know what to do.  I’ve never been to Adare but I guess they are going to have to make a few tweaks to the course.

“So, it’s superb news for Ryder Cup Europe and all those involved in organising the Ryder Cup in Europe.”

MacIntyre also commented on the Donald’s captaincy and what he brings to Team Europe.

He said: “Luke is like the boss at work as you don’t spend much time hanging around the boss.  Luke has people around him, the vice-captains to pass on all his advice and guidance, and so on.

“Luke is obviously the chief of operations and there is always his assistants like who I would feed back my information.  Though as captain Luke is so calm, controlled while everything statistically is right thanks to Dodo (Edorado Molinari) as he was the vice-captain in charge of our group.

“Luke is four for four playing in the Ryder Cup and two for two acting as a captain.  Hopefully, next year he’ll be three-for-three as a captain.”

MacIntyre was speaking after posting an opening level par 72 in very hot conditions at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando.

The Oban lefty shared 10th place a year ago and with his return a round a mix of three birdies, a bogey but also a 15th double that had him heading to lunch among the top-40 but a distant nine shots behind American Daniel Berger who shocked many observers with a blistering nine-under 63.

The most common remark being: “What course was Berger playing?”

MacIntyre spoke of his round saying: “It wasn’t all that tough out there and very much a straight forward round.  The course is in great condition and to shoot level par is not too bad.

“This my third time playing the tournament and I’ve done alright around here. It’s a good test of golf and, as I said, overall it’s a decent start.

“A good building block heading into tomorrow”.
