McIlroy: Twenty-Four Hours Post Genesis Invitational In The Life Of A Grand Slam Champion

Rory McIlroy could easily have been excused for feeling a little tied in teeing-up in tonight’s TGL golf thriller at West Palm Beach, Florida.

No sooner had McIlroy finished joint runner-up in Sunday’s concluding Genesis Invitational in Santa Monica and he was airbourne heading east and home to the Sunshine State of Florida.

The Grand Slam champ was travelling in comfort in seat 1A on board McIlroy Airways.

“I feel okay”, he said when quizzed by this journalist here in Palm Beach.

“We got out of there (Los Angeles) pretty quickly as the flight was very fast, under four hours.  I got home about half past midnight.

“I got a decent night’s sleep.  I drove Poppy to school.  I then took a nap during the day and then here. Though it was nice to sleep in your own bed.  It felt good”.

McIlroy was present at the SoFi Stadium around 3.30pm ahead of his Boston Common teams 5pm showdown against their Atlanta Drive rivals.

Though the match was all done and dusted at the 15th hole with the Atlanta team of Chris Gotterup, Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas, and in JTs return to competition since last September’s Ryder Cup, running out winners 5 & 2.

The Atlanta team were never headed leading 1up after two holes, 2up after four, 3-1 through eight holes, 3-2 after nine before going 4-2 in winning the 10th and 5-2 through 13 before a third victory in TGL season 2026.

McIlroy capped his showing holing a 31-footer for a bogey on 14 but it was all too late.

The Boston Common team has the chance tomorrow to make it through to the play-offs but will have to do it without McIlroy as he’s jetting off to Augusta, Georgia where he and his father, Gerry will join Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley playing a round on the Masters host course.

McIlroy will then have the remainder to himself ahead of next week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando.
