Scot David Law may be returning home from Joburg a few days early than first anticipated but the Aberdonian can be proud of his efforts in the opening few events of his 2026 DP World Tour season.
Just over a year ago the Scot was staring at the uncertainty of a 2025 tournament schedule after losing playing rights for the main DP World Tour, ending his 2024 season an agonising four places shy of retaining his card.
Law accepted his plight and to his enormous credit he secured full 2025 playing status on the secondary HotelPlanner tour and then in a show of determination the Paul Lawrie Golf attached golfer proceeded to win twice ahead of going so close to topping the Race to Mallorca money list title, comfortably finishing the year a close second.

The Scot wasted little time using his newfound 2026 DP World Tour season status heading ‘Down Under’ and making the halfway cut in both the co-sanctioned PGA Championship and Australian Open.
Law then arrived in Joburg earlier this week and while missing the halfway cut by two shots with scores of 73 and 70 in the Alfred Dunhill Championship, he’ll arrive home for the Festive season just outside the top- 80 on the 2026 Race to Dubai money-list.
Law now has a well-earned month off with his family before heading to UAE for the Dubai double-headed kick-starting on January 15th with the Dubai Invitational and then the following week’s rich Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
He said: “I was naturally disappointed at the end of last season to have lost my card but at the same time, I was really encouraged by how motivated I was to get it back and that was amazing for me because you can’t fake those things.
“That’s something inside you that thinks you’ve got a bit more to give and I certainly thought that and it inspired me to compete out here and have a good year.
“Having played these few events, I know how important they will be in the bigger picture,
“The better seasons I’ve had have started off really well, so I know how important it is to start well.
“Looking forward now to the Christmas break and starting afresh in a few weeks time out in Dubai.”
Calum Hill’s return to the South African capital continues on a positive note with the reigning Joburg Open champion adding a second round 69 to his opening 68 to be just outside the top-20 heading to the weekend.
Kingsbarns Daniel Young posted scores of 69 and 71 to lying 50th but not so good for Scott Jamieson missing the cut by a shot with scores of 73 and 69.
Also sitting out the weekend is Grant Forrest, scores of 69 and 74 Euan Walker posting a 71 and a horror second day 78.
Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra continues to lead the way adding a 66 and moving one clear at 15-under.
