St. Andrews Newest Golf Course – Stunning Overhead Video

A stunning overhead video of the present state of work on the newest golf course to be built in St. Andrews is drawing huge social media interest.

After more than 20 years of planning delays and redesigns, and also years and years of wranging from the locals, the long-anticipated Feddinch Mains project was approved earlier this year and thus paving the first championship golf course in the St Andrews township area for 17-years since the opening of the Castle course in 2008.

And as you can see from Gregor Burns ‘drone’ video (Click on: https://x.com/TOURMISS/status/1993426082872070479 )  those charged with building the course have impressively not wasted their time.

Situated on the southwest edge of the Home of Golf town and laid out next door to The Dukes course that was officially opened in 1995 by the then Duke of York and GolfByTourMiss.com noting in being present, he drove the official opening tee shot of the Peter Thomson course left over a fence and out-of-bounds.  In fairness to the Duke he birdied the first with his second ball.

The Feddinch masterplan will include:

  • a world-class 18-hole championship course designed by 1973 Open Champion Tom Weiskopf to stand alongside icons like the Old Course, New Course and Castle Course,
  • a dedicated par-3 short course for practice and faster play,
  • extensive practice range & facilities with cutting-edge technology,
  • a modern clubhouse with panoramic views of Fife,
  • a luxury hotel and spa, plus six private guest lodges.

There was a separate planning and listed building consent application to turn a farmhouse on the site into a usable mixed-use events space.

According to developers, Feddinch Mains has “remained derelict” for more than two decades despite a long history of proposals for the site. Although currently incomplete, substantial works are already ongoing to create the golf course development.

However in stark contrast to the public courses administered under the St Andrews Links Trust banner (Old, New, Eden, Balgrove Strathtyrum and a seventh, the Castle Course, lies one mile to the south-east in the direction of Kingsbarns and Crail), Feddinch will operate on a private membership basis, with a limited number of places.

This will make it the most exclusive club in the region, designed to attract affluent international golfers seeking privacy, exclusivity and the highest quality.

The idea of Feddinch dates back to the early 2000s and has undergone multiple redesigns. Previous versions faced opposition from local residents due to concerns over traffic and landscape impact. The latest plan, led by Alvarez & Marsal Golf, gained approval thanks to its focus on sustainability, sensitive integration with the land, and measurable economic benefits.

The project is expected to:

  • create dozens of new jobs for the local community,
  • expand golf tourism beyond peak season,
  • reinforce St Andrews’ reputation as the world’s ultimate golf destination.

Project Leadership Statement

Tyler Kirsch, Managing Director of Alvarez & Marsal Golf, said:
“This is more than a golf course – it’s a generational investment in St Andrews’ legacy. We are proud to bring a project that will serve the local community while elevating the global standing of the Home of Golf.”

Thank you to Parade Golf for this above information and thank you Gregor Burns and his video.
