MacIntyre Insisting To ‘Practice My Arse Off’ In Lead-Up To US Open

Top-ranked Scot Robert MacIntyre declared he has just over a fortnight ‘to practice my arse’ off before teeing-up in his next event – the U.S. Open in California.

For a second week running MacIntyre summed-up his week with the ‘D’ word after posting a closing 68 for a seven-under par tally and finishing just inside the top-40 at the Made in HimmerLand. (Large ‘L’).

Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, who was grouped alongside MacIntyre for the opening two rounds, successfully defended his Danish title with ease signing for closing 64 and win by five shots at 21-under par.

Wiesberger, 35, celebrated his father’s birthday last Friday and his mother’s birthday on day four in also capturing an eighth European Tour success.

He said: “It’s unbelievable to now win twice as I’ve had seven chances and wasn’t successful the first five.

“I commit to this event as I really like it as it’s good for my confidence, so it’s a special place for me as it brings out the best golf in me”.

And in being handed the silver bowl trophy, Wiesberger said smiling:  “If I win this three times next year, I get to keep the trophy, okay?”

MacIntyre looked headed for a likely top-20 when he got on a run of five straight birdies from the 13th before he drove into bushes off the 18th tee and then after managing to advance his ball a foot, he chose to take a penalty drop.

He then found the green with a fourth but then took three putts in a shock closing triple-bogey ‘7’.

A week ago MacIntyre had walked off the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island ‘livid’ in taking a 71st hole double-bogey at the PGA Championship before speaking of his overall final round disappointment after having birdied his opening three holes.

And a week on, MacIntyre was again disappointed not only to finish with a triple-bogey but being just five-under after 63 holes and with nine to play.

He said: “I’m disappointed and that’s summed-up by the last hole.

“I drove it horrifically this week but that’s golf and you get kicked in the ‘stones’ every now and then and that was one of them right there at the last”.

MacIntyre was headed home where he’ll spend the week under the watchful eye of coach Davy Burns before the pair jet out Saturday for the States for further practice ahead of the June 17th commencing US Open.

He said: “I need to practice my arse off as this week is probably the worst I’ve ever hit it tee-to-green.  I mean, it’s absolutely horrific.  I need to go back and think about it and work out what’s what and re-evaluate what I am trying to do.

“I am just nowhere near where I want to be.  I feel as though I should have been competing here this week.  I absolutely love the golf course.

“I am so far off, it’s not true.”
