Laird Left Short-Changed With Farmers Final Hole Bogey

Torrey Pines, California ….

Martin Laird produced one of the longest drives on day three down his last hole only to walk off with a bogey in a round of 69 on day three of the Farmers Insurance Open producing a three-under par 69 on the South Course at Torrey Pines,

The Scot made his score over his opening seven holes thanks to five birdies and a bogey.

Laird then played the nine holes at level par untill he stood in the middle of the ninth fairway or the 18th hole of his round.   Laird’s drive was laser straight after a massive carry of 326-yards.

He and his playing partners waited patiently as the three-ball in front, and actually the last match of the day in playing the ninth putted out and with one of those in the group being World No. 1 Justin Rose who had the crowd around the green roaring with delight when the Englishman rolled-in a 20-foot eagle ‘3’ putt.

When Laird finally got around to playing his second shot he sharing ninth place but then proceeded to find a bunker guarding the green before landing his third shot to 30-feet and sadly three-putting for a bogey ‘6’.

Despite the final hole hiccup Laird outscored playing partners in former Masters Champion, Danny Willett and in-form American Xander Schauffelle, who each posted rounds of 70 to end a shot adrift of Laird at seven-under.

The Scot headed to the scorer’s bus, yes scorer’s bus with a round of 69 and by the end of the third day he was lying T19th.

“Overall my day was fine and I hit every green in regulation today including that one there at the last but then managed to only shoot three-under par,” Laird said.

“My ball-striking was very good and the miss on there on the last was all due to the poanna grass while I had numerous other looks I didn’t make.

“My two bogeys were both three-putts and if you take the three-putts off the card then I shoot five-under, so to shoot three-under on this harder South Course is not all that bad.

“But then it all hurts the more when you’re well down the final fairway and then greenside in ‘2’ and staring at birdie but walk off with bogey.”

Laird heads into the final round of sixth event of the new 2018/19 PGA Tour season partnered with Keegan Bradley and Si Woo Kim.
