Double Celebration Awaits Molinari Brothers.

It will now be a double celebration when Edoardo Molinari catches-up next week with baby brother, Francesco.

Strangely, Edoardo has not seen Francesco, who is 19-months younger, since well before Francesco’s stunning Open Championship victory at Carnoustie.

Not only did Franceso become the first Italian to win a Major but the 35-year old last Sunday became the first ‘European’ Ryder Cup player to win five of five matches in a Ryder Cup.

And it was Molinari who secured the point needed for victory after Singles rival Phil Mickelson conceded victory after one of the worst tee shots all week in Versailles.

And what’s more remarkable is that Molinari had played on the 2010 and 2012 victorious European Team’s but managing just half-a-point in each.

The brothers made their debut in 2010 at Celtic Manor after Edoardo presented then Captain Colin Montgomerie no option to pick him as a ‘wildcard’ pick when he birdied the closing four holes to capture the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, and the last qualifying event.

Three months earlier Edoardo became still the first Italian to win the Scottish Open.

Since their Wales appearance Edoardo has struggled winning last year’s Hassan 11 Trophy while Francesco has won a first Major, four other European Tour events and also this year a first regular PGA Tour title.

Edoardo said:  “I am very proud of my brother and it’s just unbelievable.  Francesco had been playing very well and it was another great week for him.

“Tee-to-green he has always been very good but has turned around for him this year has been his putting.

“He had always been a poor putter and now all of a sudden he’s a really decent putter.  He’s not the best putter but he’s been holing enough to be in contention nearly every week.

“He’s also always been very modest and he’s never going to change.  I saw the press conference the other day and he was as modest, and as low key as I know he can be. It is a great quality he does possess.

“He and Tommy (Fleetwood) were alo having some great fun and teasing each other a bit but then they have been good friends for a long time.  Tommy’s game is quite similar and they do compliment each other very well and that showed last week.

“And he is a great inspiration for me to get to back playing to a level I know I can, and I am working as hard as a I can so that one day we can both back in a Ryder Cup team together.

“What Francesco is doing for Italian golf has been great, too.  Hopefully, with what Francesco has been achieving and Andrea (Pavin) winning the Czech Masters, will inspire younger players to take-up the golf of golf.

“Italy will still be football first but if what Francesco has been doing for golf doesn’t change it then nothing will.”

Edoardo will finally catch-up with his brother next week during the British Masters as he and his wife have been invited his brother’s palatial Ascot abode for dinner.

It will the first time the Molinari brothers and Claret Jug will be together in the one place.

Francesco said:  “Maybe, I might get to taste a nice Italian red from the Claret Jug”.
