Erin Hills, Wisconsin ….
Paul Casey could not contain his excitement declaring it to be the most fun he has ever had at a U.S. Open.
And the fun started after just three shots with Casey soaring by holing his 75-yard wedge for an eagle “3” on the Erin Hills course.
Casey then birded the second hole and while he bogeyed the fourth, the 39-year old, and contesting his 14th U.S. Open, kept the foot down with five more birdies and one other bogey and that was on the 10th to record his equal lowest score in 40 rounds of the event.

Paul Casey could not contain his excitement declaring it to be the most fun he has ever had at a U.S. Open.
“I shot 66 at Oakmont, way back in ’07 on Friday but scoring that day was ridiculously high and it was a whole different kettle of fish,” he said.
“But this round today was a fun low round. There were errors in there. I don’t boast it as a truly great round of golf, even though it’s really low because I still made errors.
“And I feel like you look at the leaderboard, there are a lot of guys that had opportunities and made a lot of birdies.
“It was just a really fun round. You don’t get many — I haven’t played that many — I don’t know that I’ve ever played a U.S. Open where I’ve had that much enjoyment.”
Rickie Fowler enjoys a one shot lead heading to day two while fellow American Xander Schauffele, and ranked a lowly 352nd in the world, had the chance to join Fowler but missed a short putt for birdie on his closing hole in a round of a six-under 66 to finish tied in second with Casey.
