Naples, Florida …
Double Major winning Jordan Spieth intends spending Christmas continuing to glow in the USAs victory in the Ryder Cup.
Spieth had made his Ryder Cup debut in 2014 at Gleneagles and teaming with fellow rookie Patrick Reed to win two matches and tie another before losing his Singles match to Graeme McDowell.
Spieth played all five matches at Hazeltine including again teaming with Patrick Reed in both Fourball and both Foursome matches winning two, halving one and losing in another before the Texan was again beaten in the Sunday Singles, and this time by reigning Open Champion, Henrik Stenson.
The American took a six-week break from competition following the Ryder Cup before returning to competition to capture a second Australian Open title in three years.
Spieth returned home for a further week’s break before heading to the Bahamas where he teed-up in the Tiger Woods hosted Hero World Challenge and where he was asked about being a member of a victorious USA winning team.
“I spent every day since the Ryder Cup just reliving that week,” he said.
“I truly feel like that was a win for me this year and everybody who played in that USA team should feel the same, as everyone contributed. It was a really special week but I haven’t been sent the Cup yet and that will be an extra special occasion when I it’s my turn to have the Ryder Cup at home in my possession.”
Spieth was asked, as despite the USA team winning by six points and the biggest margin of victory since 1981, if the American team needed to ‘tweak’ anything in the selection process ahead of 2018 at Le National in France.
“It’s hard to tell whether changes have to be made although it was a bit tricky around the BMW Championship and after the Tour Championship but all in all, and the way Bubba stepped-up was really big for the team,” said Speith.
“Bubba did not not want anyone to feel bad for him that he was not in the team. He just wanted to help out in any way possible. This is how big the Ryder Cup is that people can still want to be in the team helping out anyway they can.
“So what Bubba did was really special for us and we all benefited from his contribution.
“But then I do think the Europeans should be appointing a task force (smiling). But the problem is that when you write that down it actually makes it look like I was serious in saying that and that’s when I get into trouble.
“No, seriously it was a great tournament and what’s really cool about it is that you get guys like Rose and Stenson coming up to say how great a week it was saying it was so awesome how well we played and that’s just special the kind of respect both sides had for each other.”
