Masters Champ Danny Willett Lucky To Avoid Bizarre ‘Sunglasses’ Penalty At BMW PGA.

Masters champion Danny Willett, and enjoying a three-way share of the lead, was lucky not to be penalised when he sunglasses fell off his cap and hit his ball on the 17th hole.

Willett immediately called for Chief Referee, John Paramor but as his ball had not moved he was not penalised.

He said: “I’d knocked my sunglasses off and he was stood right next to me and I said I don’t think they hit it (the ball), and the referee said well even if touched it as long as the ball’s not moved.

“I was just double checking before I signed my car. Obviously with TV and people calling in and trying to have their say you have to be sure.

“It was just to double check, but if JP (Paramor) said it was ok then I was happy to sign my card.”

However, it added to a bizarre round of 68 for the Augusta National winning hero who was out in 29 but came home in the proverbial ambulance with a 39.

Willett was later joined by Aussie Scott Hend who eagled the last in a 69 and then Korean Y E Yang birdied 18 to make it a three-way tie in the lead on 10-under par.
