The ‘Snake Pit’ should be a breeze for triple Major winning Padraig Harrington after he revealed he underwent a second treatment for skin cancer.
Harrington had revealed just over two years ago he went under the knife for skin cancer, and now ahead of this week’s Valspar Championship the Dubliner disclosed he had further skin cancer treatment five weeks ago.
Fortunately, for Harrington the cancer spots were able to be frozen off with liquid nitrogen and as your author can testify.
“I had my check-up again five weeks ago when I went in and I had about four of them frozen off this time…the ones I had before I had to have them operated off. They turned out to be non-melanoma,” he said on the Irish radio program the Last Word.
However despite the cancers he had burnt off not being life threatening, he again urged people to be vigilant when it comes to their help and seek treatment early.
“When it comes to all medical things, you got to be pro-active. Whether it’s your skin with skin cancer, or any niggle.”
“We’re Irish and we’re brought up to believe “Ah I’ll be OK.””
“Yes, you want to be strong character and you don’t want to complain and you don’t want to be seen to be like that but when it comes to medical stuff: If you get it early, you can sort everything out these days just as long as you get in early.
“Whatever the little thing is, have it checked out, talk to somebody about it, get it worked on.”
