It was a week shy of five years ago Scotland’s Russell Knox made his PGA Tour debut at the Transitions Championship shooting rounds of 71 and 74 to miss the cut with a three over par tally..
This week Knox is celebrating his 100th tournament as the reigning WGC – HSBC Champions title holder at this week’s Valspar Championship.
“It’s hard to believe this will be my 100th PGA Tour event but then I can still clearly remember my first,” he said on the eve of this week’s $US 6.1m event on the Copperhead course that boasts ‘the Snake Pit’, and the closing three holes of the course.
“It’s been an incredible journey so far and much also has happened in my life so it would be nice to celebrate the occasion in the best way possible, and that’s the goal this week.
“I’ve been delighted with the way I’m playing tee-to-green and if I can turn it around on the greens then I know I can be in contention for the tournament.”
Of course, the highlight to date of the Inverness born golfer’s career on the PGA Tour came in his 93rd event shooting rounds of 67, 65, 68 and a then a closing round 68 to capture the WGC title.
Well done and congratulations to Russell.
Here’s hoping he celebrates the occasion with a second PGA Tour success.
