The Masters winner had grown up in Texas but both his parents, Shawn and Chris (Julius) Spieth, were raised in the Lehigh Valley and graduated from Saucon Valley High School. They get back to the Lehigh Valley on occasion for family gatherings, and Jordan played a round a few years ago at Saucon Valley Country Club, his grandfather said.

But then speaking after Jordan’s win, Donald Spieth had remarked: “I never imagined that.

“I walked Augusta in the gallery, following Jordan’s every shot.

“His intention has always been to win the Masters. I know that’s where he was directing all of his concentrations in the future. He had a fabulous week.

“It was really exciting, almost overwhelming. You see his name move up and up on the leaderboard. It’s like you’re in a different world.

“It was so much fun and exciting to be there,” said Spieth, who teaches music at Moravian College andNorthampton Community College, and was the longtime conductor of the former Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra
