Jason Day & Golf’s Match-Play King Envious He Will Never Play In The Ryder Cup.

Double WGC – Dell Match-Play champion Jason Day is envious he will never get to play in the Ryder Cup.

Day stamped himself as the game’s ‘Match-Play King’ in winning last Sunday in Austin, Texas, and two years after winning the same event in Arizona.

Of course, Day is no stranger to match-play competition having grown up in Australia playing the match-play format of the game.

He excelled in capturing a number of amateur tournaments that included match-play including a stunning 2004 season when Day won the Australian Junior Championship, the 2004 World Junior Championship, the first of two Queensland Amateur titles and the New Zealand Amateur.

And prior to victories in the 2014 WGC – Dell Match-Play and a second success last Easter Sunday, Day had been ninth on debut in the event in 2011 and placed third in 2013.

The new World No. 1 has also had match-play experience of three Presidents Cup but revealed how much he would have love to play in a European Ryder Cup side.

“I have been playing match-play competition from a very early age so that’s where my experience in this format comes,” he said.

“Of course, we don’t play as much in the pro ranks but then in saying that I’ve also played in three Presidents Cup and every one of the WGC Match-Play events since 2011, and now winning twice.

“But I would love to play in a Ryder Cup and just to experience the intensity and the passion that is so much a part of a Ryder Cup.

“I am also envious of the Europeans because they just ooze so much passion and bond so closely when it comes to a Ryder Cup, and it would be fabulous just to savour one Ryder Cup.

“But not being born in Europe means it’s never going to happen but then it hasn’t stopped me dreaming what it would be like representing Europe against the States.”
