US Presidential candidate Donald Trump reckons being the Republican front-runner means he’s good for golf.
After plenty of speculation Trump’s helicopter touched down at his Trump National Doral resort course less than 45-minutes before four-time Major winning Rory McIlroy was due to tee off in the final round of the WGC – Cadillac Championship in suburban Miami.
Trump soon made his way to the practice range where he met with defending champion Dustin Johnson before moving to shake hands with McIlroy.
A day earlier Republican rival Senator Ted Cruz scored decisive wins in Kansas and Maine as he tries to reel in Trump but then the billionaire Trump contained Cruz’s advances winning Louisiana and Kentucky.
I will be at the Cadillac World Golf Championship @TrumpDoral in Miami tomorrow! Rory, Phil, Bubba, Adam, and Dustin all at the top!

However Trump’s clearly not as popular with golfing authorities and after seeing the 2015 PGA Grand Slam of Golf stripped from him Los Angeles Country Club course late last year post his ‘Mexican’ comments, golf authorities are seriously considering taking the $US 9.5m Cadillac Championship from him
However Trump was questioned on any such move, including plans by the R & A to take the Open Championship back to Trump’s course at Turnberry.
“My relationship with the golfing authorities is very good, but then it helps if you’re the frontrunner and the number one contender – they listen to you a lot more than if you’re, say, the number 12,” said Trump.
“A CNN poll has just come out with me at 49% and the number two at 15 and the number three at 14.
“And if I become President it will kill my game but it will be great for golf, because I love golf.”
