Tiger Woods Two Rounds From Ending Two-Year Winless Drought At Wyndham.

Tiger Woods late decision to contest this week’s Wyndham Championship could pay winning dividends with Woods sharing the lead with two rounds to play in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Never has the host Sedgefield Country Club course witnessed the scenes that have unfolded over the past two days as Woods stormed his way to the top of the board and in his first appearance in the $US 5.4m tournament.

On yet another sauna-like day, Woods had his army of fans roaring with delight in producing a five under par 65 that included a 15th hole eagle along with five birdies and just two bogeys to move to 11-under par and tied with little known compatriot Tom Hoge, who added a 67 to his blistering opening round of 62.

It is the first occasion since day two of the 2013 WGC -Bridgestone Invitational Woods has either led or shared the lead in an event.

And Woods is now looking to win for a first time since his 2013 triumph in Akron, Ohio.

However the current World No. 284 was not about to get ahead of himself.

“I feel like I am playing well enough and I’m getting a lot out of my rounds but this is only the halfway point, as we have only played 36 holes”, he said.

“We still have a long way to go.

“From the forecast this golf course will continue to dry out and continue to get faster and it’s going to be harder and harder to get the ball underneath the hole.

“They’re going to want to chase.

“It is going to be a premium on getting the ball in the fairway and leaving yourself aggressive iron shots and putting yourself in the right spots.

“I have made it to 11-under par which is great but we’re all still at the halfway point.”

Woods will contest the third round (teeing off at 2pm local time) in the company of fellow American Tom Hoge.

“Tom who?” said Woods. “No, I wouldn’t (know him).  What is it, or him.  I don’t know”.

And in fairness to Woods he, like a lot of the older players, is not expected to know Hoge – a 26-year old born in Statesville and located 76-mile south-west of Greensboro.

“You go up and down the range they’re all in their early 20s and it’s funny also because I look at the guys playing on the Champions Tour leaderboard and I know everyone of those guys only because I played against them and I played with them.”

In fact, Woods will be chasing his 80th PGA Tour victory while Hoge is seeking a first in just his 26th PGA event.
