England’s Paul Casey produced a bright four under par 66 on the opening day of the Wyndham Championship and one stroke more than his prior best Sedgefield Country Club commencing rounds of two 65s (2011 & 2014).

It put Casey in a strong position and just four shots behind the leading pair of Americans Erik Compton and William McGirt.
Casey’s also in a good place FedEx Cup Play-Off series-wise arriving to Greensboro lying 22nd on the list but then also looking to qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship.
“I am into the first three certainly and the big goal is to play the Tour Championship in Atlanta, so I need to have a couple of good results to get myself to the final event,” he said.
“I would love to be competing in the Tour Championship having been there just once in my career.”
However on the further horizon is the 2016 Ryder Cup and with qualifying to commence in a fortnight.
But then Casey is no longer a member of the European Tour having let his membership lapse for this season and thereby if he is to contest a fourth Ryder Cup, and a first since 2008, then Casey will need to rejoin the Tour.
“I still have to see what my plans are going to be so I am postponing that decision until I have to make it, and I’m not dwell on it to it comes around,” he said.
“So it is on my mind but I am not discussing it even though I sat down with Guy Kinnings last week at the PGA.
“But then I want to put myself in a position where I can make the team automatically, and though I have moved up in the World Rankings (currently ranked 27th), I find myself back in the same situation.
“Everybody is kind of saying to me ‘you are going to rejoin, aren’t you?’ but then it is a long way between now and the end of this season.
“So there is lots of things we can talk about between now and then, and hopefully we (England) can kick your (Australia) arses again in the Rugby World Cup, and that’s more interesting.”
And Casey revealed at the completion of the FedEx Cup Series he will contest the 2015/16 PGA Tour starting Frys.com Open and then contest one of the opening events on the European Tour’s Final Four Series but at this stage he wants to keep a cap on the particular Race to Dubai tournament.
