Woods Delights In Meeting 3-Year Old Tommy Morrissey & Next For Tommy Is McIlroy.

One of the more pleasing aspects in Tiger Woods returning to competition was meeting three-and-a-half year old Tommy Morrissey.

Tommy is not stranger to the 14-time Major winning Woods.

The duo met last week when Woods invited Morrissey and his parents to the exclusive Lake Nona Resort on the eastern side of Orlando where the one-arm youngster again delighted Woods with his skills.

Tommy can already hit the ball over 100 yards despite being born without part of his right arm below the elbow due to a blood clot forming in his arm.

“It’s both a gift and a challenge and he doesn’t know he has either one,” Joe Morrissey, Tommy’s father.

“His golf is truly his passion and it’s truly remarkable.

“We started watching golf together on TV and about 18 months he stood up in front of the TV and started emulating the golfers on TV.”

Tommy has nicknamed his right arm “Nemo,” after the character in the Disney animated film who has a small fin.

Tommy lives with his family in Palm Beach Gardens in Florida, but visits Linwood, N.J., during the summer and where he took lessons from Linwood PGA professional Jeff LeFevre.

“I was very skeptical at first,” LeFevre said.

“Most 3-year-olds are more interested in Tonka Trucks than golf … But Tommy was different. His setup and stance were perfect, and he had the slight hesitation at the top of his backswing that you’re looking for. I stepped back and had a tear in my eye. The ball is the biggest truth in golf, and he hit it square. He is beyond unique.”

It is quite clear Tommy’s favorite club is the driver and while at today’s Hero World Challenge the club was not out of his possession.

“Most kids have stuffed animals in their cribs,” his mother, Marcia Lee said. “Tommy slept with his golf clubs. And it wasn’t just one club. He had eight in there. One night we forgot one and he freaked out and said, ‘I need my driver.”

And Tommy’s mother revealed that while that her ultra-talented young son would next like to meet current World No. 1 Rory McIlroy.

“Tiger has been great with Tommy but then we live just down the road from Rory, and we’ve seen him drive past the house a few times, so it would be great if Tommy could meet Rory one day,” she said.
