Forget the $9m Accenture Match-Play Championship as the big golf tournament this week is taking place at Vilamoura on Portugal’s Algarve.
Legendary Crail cabby Joe Duddy has drawn first blood in the 2014 Crail Golfing Society ‘Vilamoura Golf Challenge’.
Dressed in the most outrageous looking pair of Royal and Awesome trousers and cap, Joe upstaged everyone on the Oceanico Old Course with 35 Stableford points and seven more than second-place George Morris.
Joe’s making his debut appearance with the lads from Crail and could rightfully stand proud.
And captain John Howorth savoured bragging rights on the opening day of this year’s five-day Challenge with his side winning the opening Fourballs 3 – 1 against Frank Donnelly ‘Flops’ (John’s word, not mine!)
Conditions were ideal for golf and the Old Course in superb condition.
A special thanks to Callaway for prizes and to Oceanico Golf in generously donating of an Old Course logo polo shirt that was presented to Joe.
Hereunder is a selection of pics from the opening day along with a few shots prior to arrival in Vilamoura.

Forget the trousers and hat as Joe Duddy was in fashion accumulating 35 points on day one of the ‘Vilamoura Golf Challenge’.
- Meeting at the Golf Hotel, Crail.
- Gathering in David’s Bar at Vilamoura bar for the naming of the two teams – Team captains John Howorth and Frank Donnelly center of picture.
