Paul McGinley Welcomes 2013 Seve Trophy Will Go Ahead At St. Nom-La-Breteche.

It was reported exclusively by www.golfbytourmiss.com late last week that the 2013 Seve Trophy will go ahead as planned in October.

The event, without Vivendi sponsorship, will be played the same week as the Presidents Cup from October 3rd to 6th and again at the St. Nom-La-Breteche club outside of Versailles in France.

It will be McGinley’s job to appoint the two rival GB & I and European Team captains.

And the Irishman spoke of his delight at the staging of the event ahead of teeing-up in the 95th PGA Championship here at Oak Hill in suburban Rochester.

“From my point of view, I’m delighted that it’s saved and that The European Tour have worked very hard to get this tournament off the ground,” he said.

“That’s why it’s been so late being announced.

“So from my point of view, from a selfish point of view, in terms of being the captain next year, I really want to be involved in the Seve Trophy.  It’s been a tournament very close to my heart that’s been very good to me both as a player and as a captain.  I’m delighted it’s going to happen and I’ll have an active involvement in the whole week and sit there over the whole week and observe and watch and communicate with everybody that will be involved.

“I’ll be picking the captains so at the moment, the points are still running.

“I’m a little bit reluctant to go ahead and choose now who the captains will be, but I would say in the next couple of weeks, particularly after this week, I’ll have a good idea as to where we’ll go with the captains.”

Among those in the mix for GB & I captains must be Scotland’s Paul Lawrie and Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke while Frenchman Thomas Levet, Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Bjorn would seem to have the inside running on the European Team leadership.
