Bernie & Ronnie Star With Aces In Bridgestone ‘Green Monster Challenge’

Your author and legendary caddy, John ‘Ronnie’ Roberts sensationally holed out for aces in the special media edition of the Bridgestone ‘Green Monster Challenge’.

Bridgestone, as sponsors of this week’s WGC – Bridgestone Invitational, built an indoor replica of Firestone’s famed 16th hole.

The tyre-manufacturing giant invited the media to try their hand at the challenge in the hours after the second round of the event when Tiger Woods posted a sizzling career low equallying 61 to move seven shots clear of his rivals.

‘The Green Monster Challenge’ involved hitting wedge shots over a mini version of the 16th hole.

After a handful of shots I somehow managed to find the bottom of the cup with a sand wedge before being joined a short time later by renowned US golf correspondent, Dave Shedloski.

‘Ronnie’, who is caddying this week for Australia’s Brett Rumford, was invited to join the function but revealed he has not played golf for some 40 years.

However the superstar caddy, who has seven wins on five different tours, quickly got into the groove and with a lob-wedge managed to come up trumps with a hole-in-one.

One of the Bridgestone officials then asked Ronnie’s name and the response came back:  ‘Just put down Ronnie’.

Here is a selection of photographs from the evening and I hasten to add a special thank you to Dan Murphy, Executive Vice-President, Sales and Marketing for Bridgestone for hosting the media.

As I pointed out to Dan, it’s nice to come to golf tournaments and be able to interact with the sponsors.

Far too often the respective Tour media officials do nothing to facilitate such interaction so well done to Bridgestone.
