Adam Scott is returning to competition from his Augusta play-off success at this week’s Players Championship.
The first-ever Australian to be fitted with a Masters green jacket will tee up at TPC Sawgrass with the praise of Peter Dawson, CEO of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.
Dawson was on hand when Scott let slip being presented with the famed Claret Jug in last year’s Open Championship after Scott had sadly bogeyed the last four holes to hand victory to South African Ernie Els at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.
“It was just fantastic in the manner Adam bounced back to win the Masters because he must have been so disappointed following Lytham,” said Dawson.
“We all felt so sad for him, really.
“I got the chance to speak with him but he was still kind of in shock, so I didn’t press the point with him.
“You could easily have felt at Lytham that that guys done for and he may never get another chance to win a Major but for Adam to win at Augusta was marvellous.
“He’s a very popular player with everyone here in the UK. A real gentleman and I for one could not have been more pleased.
“Maybe now that’s he won one Major, he will win several.
