The memories of last week’s Volvo World Match-Play Championship at Thracian Cliffs will remain with us for a long time.

As eventual champion, Graeme McDowell remarked at the prize presentation it was a bold move to take the prestigious event to the Black Sea shoreline.

But a big congratulations to Volvo, IMG, the European Tour and the Bulgarian Golf Federation in organising such a wonderful event.

The week began with a few days in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia and then a very warm welcome at Varna Airport.

There was a Welcome Party, the delight of playing the Pro-Am alongside tournament runner-up, Thongchai Jaidee and the award of prizes for the Ladies Longest Drive and Men’s Nearest-to-the-pin. 

We attended a fabulous Media dinner and also a Beach Party on Saturday night.

And we witnessed McDowell capture his second tournament victory in three events.
