Rory McIlroy Ready To Compete Under Two Flags In Rio.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy is so concerned about upsetting his supporters he revealed he dearly would love to compete under two flags should he qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The double Major winning McIlroy is drawn between competing for Great Britain and Northern Ireland or Ireland.

But in a TV interview for Ireland’s RTE, McIlroy admits he doesn’t want to upset people in either country.

£”It’s a tough one. Being from Northern Ireland it brings its own difficulties whenever you have to choose who to play for or an allegiance,” said the 23-year old.

“It’s just a difficult position to be in because you don’t want to let anyone down and you don’t want to upset anyone”.

McIlroy unwittingly stirred up a huge controversy in September when he said in an interview that he was leaning toward representing Great Britain.

It caused a huge furore with his Twitter followers and even seasoned commentators vented their dismay at his statement.

But in a Twitter a day later, McIlroy clarified his position and insisted he wasn’t ready to make any decision about Rio.

However with the TV show to go to air later this week McIlroy admits:  “I feel I’m more than just a flag. I play golf and I’m an international sports person and it doesn’t tie me to one flag or one allegiance.”
