World No. 1 Rory McIlroy says he learning better how to win after his one stroke success in the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.
McIlroy collected his third PGA Tour success and the fifth on the PGA Tour in defeating South African and former British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen.
McIlroy’s victory is the eighth of his professional career since turning professional in September 2007. He’s had two other wins on the European Tour along with victory in the Lake Malaren Shanghai Masters.
McIlroy earlier this year won the Honda Classic and last month captured a second Major Championship with his eight shot winning Ocean Course cruise at Kiawah Island.
His win yesterday on U.S. Labor Day at TPC Boston comes just two events after he lifted the Rodman Wanamaker Trophy.
And McIlroy admitted, that while he only won by a shot in Boston, he’s getting more used to closing out tournaments.
“I think I’ve just learned, I’ve learned how to handle winning big events and carrying myself forward and not dwelling on what’s happened, just moving forward, just trying to win another golf tournament, trying to put myself in position,” he said.
“There’s a time and a place to celebrate and to enjoy what you’ve done, and going into the Playoffs isn’t it.
“You have to just focus on the week ahead. I’ll get to Crooked Stick tomorrow and start to prepare for that tournament. This run that we’re on, we just have to keep thinking about the next week, and once Ryder Cup is over, for sure I’ll think back and I’ll celebrate and I’ll enjoy the great golf that I’ve played over the last few weeks.”
