England’s Ian Poulter displayed just why the Ryder Cup is so special when he birdied his closing five holes to squeeze out a point for he and Rory McIlroy to defeat the American duo of Jason Duffner and Zach Johnson.
Poulter continued to be the most effected player on the European for he and the current World No. 1 to trail 6 – 10 heading to the Sunday Singles.

“It was unbelievable and I have to thank Rory for that as he warmed-up by holing a great birdie putt on 13,” said Poulter.
McIlroy remarked: “We just need a spark to get us going and thankfully I holed that birdie on 13 and that was the spark we needed.”
Duffner and Johnson had raced to be 2 up after two holes and were still 2 up after 12 holes when a tired-looking McIlroy finally displayed his double Major winning talent.
Poulter had birdied the fourth hole ahead of his brilliance at the end of the match.
However it will still take an historic European Team first if Jose Maria Olazabal’s team is to return to Europe with the trophy.
Not since 1995 when Europe was down 7 points to 9 points heading to the Singles has a European Team succeeded in coming from behind to clinch the gleaming gold trophy.
McIlroy added: “Of course it can be done. We have 12 incredible players on the team and all we need to do is just go out there and believe in ourselves.”
